The career of Carlos Alves Duarte spans more than 20 years in project management and senior management roles. He contributes to its growth since he joined Portugal Telecom in 2003, not only in Europe, but in Africa, Asia and South America as well.

He was appointed executive director of PT SGPS and of PT Comunicações/TMN, with overall responsibility for corporate business and Information Systems. Apart from the fixed/mobile business, his career also spans a variety of management positions in the fields of technology and information systems. Currently, he is also chairman of the Board of Directors of PT Sistemas de Informação, executive director of PT Prime, chairman of Tradecom and deputy chairman of Caixanet.

Prior to that, he was appointed chief executive of Oni Telecom and director of Comunitel, a position he assumed after serving as president of EDS in Spain and Portugal. He also held several roles at IBM, including the overall responsibility for IBM Global Services (Portugal).

Carlos Alves Duarte was born in 1961. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, followed by a post-graduate degree in Welding Engineering and a master’s degree in Marketing Management and Sales. He also completed several post-graduate courses at the London Business School (UK), IESE Business School (Spain) and Catholic University (Portugal).
